Peonies were the favorite flower of my mother. She had a row of them on the west side of the house, and every spring this was white. I noticed them, but
confess that I really did not pay much attention. When we bought the house, we had a walk way lined with peonies, I did not see them bloom in that place, but that was just because I paid no attention.
Then we had to dig them up and save them. Kurt and Toon helped. Then the move to Osaka, that brought a new interest. In the spring Botans (tree peonies, mostly called Paeonia suffruticosa) which have unbelievable flowers. On returning to Berlin, I saw in some stores that I could buy Botans in Berlin too. Then I started to read a bit about them and when ever Barbara was not looking I bought a new one.

This is in a way the first, but not the first to flower.
 | This lovely flower, up close with a bit of rain.
 | This fantastic plant, I have more photos of it than my own kids.
 | The red botan flower for the first time this year, 2007
 |
I believe these are both P. lactiflora, but these are different plants.
 | This is again, P. lactiflora.
 | This is also P. lactiflora. This lovely white, with yellow interior.

A botan, lovely dark red, but fairly small flowers.
 | Closer yet to this.
 | Lovely pair, these pink, with white filling, and then the simple red!
 | This is just lovely, the only white simple which i have. Originally this was a pink Botan!
 |
These are not big flowers, but certainly among the loveliest, I cannot find a similar one in all of my books.
 | Even closer. I am sure I have at least three of these.
 | Isn't this lovely with a spot of red on a white background.
 | In Jan. 2007. I was so afraid that I would lose this plant this year because of frost. But it made OK
 |
An opulent vase! Poorly centered, but interesting light. I used my reflector.
 | Nothing is more impressive than a field of peonies, but this is the best I can offer.
 | Barbara took this, and it shows the vase from a better view.
 | My hand is actually a bit in the background, but this was still a huge flower. This is first flower after five years.
 |
This is Paeonia officinalis -- if I recall correctyl, plena rubra
 | This is a faithful plant, it flowers every years, with the same lovely flowers.
 | Barbara with our purple Botan, this was in 2006, it had two flowers, 2007 it had 7!
 | Weighted down with rain drops.
 |
Yellow! I now have at least four plants with yellow or yellowish flowers.
 | Yellow from a different angle.
